TT 2010 - Hutchy's Island

What can you say about Ian Hutchinson’s performance during TT 2010, amazing, unbelievable, incredible are just a few of the superlatives that spring to mind to describe Hutchy’s record breaking 5 wins. Simply put though Hutchy was unbeatable!

Practice Week

The weather didn't play ball for the 1st practice session of TT 2010 with only the newcomers going out on their controlled lap behind the travelling marshalls.

After the poor start the weather just kept getting better and so did the lap times with John McGuinness being the 1st rider to average over 130mph in TT 2010. However there are no prizes for guessing who would go on to set the fastest lap by the end of practice week. Hutchy's Friday evening speed of 130.614mph was good enough to see him collect the 1st of 6 Graham watches worth £6,000.00 each!

Superbike

A large slice of luck handed Hutchy his 1st win of the week in the delayed Superbike TT. The race was due to start at 12pm but low lying coastal mist meant the race didn't get underway until 3.30pm. Local hero Conor Cummins lead the race from the begining and had a comfortable lead before clutch problems forced him out on lap 4 handing victory to Hutchy with an elated Michael Dunlop in 2nd. Cameron Donald claimed 3rd place despite loosing nearly a minute on the 1st lap after overshooting the Nook.

Supersport & Superstock

Hutchy had to work really hard for his Supersport and Superstock victories, which were without doubt the most exciting races of the week. Despite being behind at Ramsey on the final lap of each race Hutchy overcame Guy Martin, Ryan Farquhar and Michael Dunlop respectively on the final run over the mountain to take victory in each by seconds.

Senior

Hutchy was unsurprisingly installed as favourite going into the Senior TT and was well placed before the race was red flagged following Guy Martin’s huge crash at the 160mph Ballagarey corner in Glen Vine, the same corner that Paul Dobbs was tragically killed the day before.

From the restart Hutchy lead early on from John McGuinness before McGuinness was forced to retire at Glen Helen, the 3rd Superbike race in a row he has failed to finish through no fault of his own. Hutchy was coming under pressure from Conor Cummins before Conor suffered his huge crash at the Verandah. From that moment on Hutchy was able to throttle off and bring the bike home to take win number 5 from Ryan Farquhar who was clearly delighted with 2nd place whilst Bruce Anstey managed to salvage a disappointing week by finishing in 3rd place.

Sidecars

Klaus Klaffenbock, with local man Dan Sayle in the chair, took his debut TT victory in the 1st Sidecar race beating Dave Molyneux and Patrick Farrance by a little under 3 seconds with Tim Reeves and Dipash Chauhan in 3rd.

TT victories appear to be like buses for Klaus as he had only to wait 4 more days for his second victory. Managing to overcome a 10 second deficit on the final lap to beat a clearly disappointed John Holden and Andy Winkle by just over a second with Conrad Harrison and Kerry Williams finishing 3rd.

TT Zero

Mark Miller took victory in the TT Zero race on the Motoczysz electric bike. Whilst recording an impressive 132mph on the Sulby straight Mark wasn't quite able to break the 100mph lap marker coming close with a lap at 96.820mph. Rob Barber winner in 2009 finished 2nd and James McBride came home in 3rd.
